Margaret River, WA
A pristine expression of Margaret River's cooler south side Chardonnay!
11 months in 30% new French Oak
Picked on 27th Feb and 2nd March.
Our second vintage of Chardonnay, grown from grafts, handpicked and hand sorted. Gin Gin clone.
Grown on 2 separate blocks. One on the eastern boundary of the vineyard, the other near the western bound.
Treated as 2 separate batches for the whole process. Whole fruit pressed, light juice settling, and transferred to barrel for fermentation 3 different yeasts used to add complexity and texture. No MLF. Following fermentation, the wine stays in barrel until mid January the next year. Battonage is monthly. The batches were then blended before bottling. Minimally fined and filtered.
This is a centred, precise and very textural Chardonnay coming out of an exceptional vintage.
Ratings: 92pts National Wine Show - Silver 96pts Ray Jordan 95pts Huon Hooke (June 2019) "Light, bright yellow colour, with a lightly-toasted cashew nut aroma, with intense ripe grapefruit and nectarine undertones, Gingin clone suspected. The palate is refined and taut, reserved yet intense and long, with lovely refinement and evenness. Delicious, appetising chardonnay in a typical regional style. And great value!"
2019 Royal Perth Show Bronze "Delicate white florals, pink grapefruit pith, riper style, integrated oak, length".
