Arlewood Estate Chardonnay

This is superbly composed, showing golden peach, melon, cedar, vanilla and savoury pastry aromas on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate exhibiting outstanding depth and richly textured mouthfeel. It's creamy and flowing, beautifully framed by well-pitched acidity, finishing superbly long and delicious. At its best: now to 2033.

Hand picked, whole bunches pressed to French oak barriques, 30% new. Wild fermentation, regular lees stirring, and aged 10 months, with about 20% mlf; and the wine needs it, as this is racy and tight with perky acidity. It's flavoursome, with cedary oak that is a little overt, given its youth, but should settle down. Plenty of lemon flavour, grapefruit, too, with zest, a dusting of spice and a slip of curd-like leesy texture adding to the enjoyment.

A medium lemon yellow with ripe pineapple, bacon fat and roasting nuts all lifting from the glass. Immediately on entry there’s a sense of tension and drive, white peach fruit is bound by saline acidity. As it lingers on the palate, bacon fat and roast hazelnut characters build in power to the very long finish. A hint of flinty minerality sits at the end, offering a cleansing tone to bring you back for more
