The new release Arlewood Chardonnay 2008 is a rare treat. These days, we make only around 200 cases from our low yielding vines. Precision in the vineyard with regards to canopy management, exposure and minimal irrigation provides us with a wine that shows a mineral accent, good citric acidity, and compelling fruit weight. It’s been our philosophy to use only the finest parcels from the Arlewood Wilyabrup Vineyard from which to source the fruit for this wine. It spends 24 months in the finest tightly grained French oak barriques we can get our mits on, and a further 24 months in bottle for all the elements to integrate prior to release; this is the Arlewood Cabernet programme. Inspired by the village of La Bratta in Northern Italy where my mother was born, and where my grandfather was a winemaker, the 2007 La Bratta is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from the great 2007 vintage in Margaret River.
